President Donald Trump said Thursday that he was going to fire FBI Director James Comey “regardless” of what the Justice Department recommended, contradicting what the White House said Wednesday…
“Looks he’s a a showboat, he’s a grand-stander, the FBI has been in turmoil. You know that, I know that. Everybody knows that. You take a look at the FBI a year ago, it was in virtual turmoil. Less than a year ago, it hasn’t recovered from that,” Trump said at the White House.
Trump also said that he asked Comey explicitly whether he was personally being investigated as part of the bureau’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
“I actually asked him, yes,” Trump said. “I said, ‘If it’s possible, would you let me know am I under investigation?’ He said, ‘You are not under investigation.'”
