A new novel will imagine Hillary Clinton's life if she had never married Bill

Publisher Random House announced Monday that it will publish author Curtis Sittenfeld’s fictionalized story about Hillary Rodham “in which (as she does in real life) she turns down marriage proposals from Bill Clinton, then ultimately turns him down once and for all, and how her life spins out from there.”

In an interview with Girls creator Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter newsletter in 2015, Clinton revealed that she declined the former president’s proposals twice, fearing she would lose her own identity by marrying a man whose path in politics was clearly forged.

“I was terrified about losing my identity and getting lost in the kind of wake of Bill’s force-of-nature personality,” said Clinton.

Despite her hesitance, she eventually agreed to marry Clinton in what she describes as a “leap of faith.”
