Sessions used political funds for RNC convention expenses

Former Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., billed his trip to the Republican National Convention – where he spoke on behalf of President Trump and met with a Russian ambassador – to his own political campaign, according to campaign finance records.

The findings come after the Trump campaign had said Sessions attended in his capacity as a senator, though he spoke on behalf of Trump and later met with foreign officials. On Thursday, Sessions told reporters at a press conference that he had talked with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak on two occasions, one of which was at a diplomacy conference in Cleveland, which he attended while at the GOP convention last July.

Sessions reported making two payments of $1,395 to the Sheraton Cleveland Airport. The campaign also paid $223 to the Westin Hotel in Cleveland. Both were deemed “lodging” expenses, according to the Wall Street Journal.
