A survey taken shortly after the press conference shows registered voters are split on the matter: 45 percent of respondents said they care that Trump has not released his tax returns, while 44 percent do not. The figures represent a significant shift from May, when voters were asked a similar question.
In May, 67 percent of registered voters said all presidential candidates should be required to release their tax returns, compared with 21 percent who said they should not. While 60 percent of Republicans in May said all candidates should release their returns, 20 percent last week said they care that Trump hasn’t released his returns. Among independents, 71 percent in May said all candidates should release their tax returns, compared with 41 percent last week who said it matters to them that Trump hasn’t released his returns.
