Javier Palomarez, the president and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, called President-elect Donald Trump a buffoon throughout the election and was preparing for a Hillary Clinton presidency.
This week, he decided to give Trump something of an embrace, announcing he’d advise his presidential transition.
“Great God Almighty, did I ever get attacked,” he said in an interview. “I’ve gotten death threats, including from people in my community. People have called me a race traitor — you’ve forgotten your family, you’ve forgotten your people, you’ve forgotten what you stand for.”
Trump overwhelmingly lost the Hispanic vote after calling for a massive wall along the Mexican border, promising to deport millions of undocumented immigrants and labeling Mexican immigrants as “rapists” as he opened his campaign. Since the election, mayors in a number of large cities have reported thousands of citizens worried about being deported.
