Don't hold your breath for Trump TV

He’s got an enthusiastic, dedicated following. He’s tested his potential audience with a faux-news program on Facebook. And his inner circle is not only enthused about the venture but also testing the waters with industry players. And reports of an anonymously-posted casting call seeking “outspoken and energetic people” who “look upscale and intelligent” for an “up-and-coming conservative media network currently in development” set Twitter tongues wagging much of Thursday morning — could this be it?

There’s just one problem with Trump TV: the business model.

Sarah Palin and Al Gore both tried to parlay their political brands into a media business, one of which failed pretty quickly and the other more slowly, but more spectacularly. Glenn Beck has tried to parlay his following into a media business, and it’s coming apart. In the news media game, Trump would need to be a winner where everyone else has been a loser.
