Burnett pressed the evangelical leader on whether or not he could still support Trump for president if the NYT story turned out to be true. Falwell didn’t want to comment on a “hypothetical” and attempted to pivot by saying he’d prefer to “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar” and that “we aren’t electing a pastor.”
However, Burnett persisted, bringing up the fact that a friend of hers had confided that she was forcibly kissed by Trump in 2010. Eventually, Burnett was able to get Falwell to definitively answer if he would stick with the real estate mogul.
“I’m going vote for Trump because i believe he’s the best qualified to be President of the United States,” Falwell said. “And I’m not going to say anything to besmirch the character of any of these women.”
