This year sucks. But I wouldn't trade it.

Here we are in a miserable, sucky, crappy political season where friends have turned on each other, the bad behavior of the candidates has trickled down to their supporters, and the world is turned upside down and I would not trade it for the world.

We live in the land of the free and the home of the brave where we can have these awful, long, dragged out campaign seasons with people at each other’s throats, but then we will show up on Election Day, without violence, and we will chart the next four years of this nation. We will have a new President and that President like the present one and the last one will be our President — mine, yours, and every other Americans whether we like him or her or not.

The President of the United States will leave office. He will leave a note in the President’s desk for the new President, walk out, and go into private life. Tanks will not roll down the street. Shots will not be fired. There will not be riots or violence or economic collapse merely by holding our election.

Life really will go on. We will still yell at each other and we will still disagree with each other. We’ll be snide and blame each other. But dammit, we’re all going to be Americans today, tomorrow, and the day after the election. That is pretty awesome.
