Trump has made clear that he is likely to be the sort of nominee who is not afraid to slam members of his own party, even as they head into a general election. After New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez declined to attend his Tuesday night rally in her state, Trump accused her of not doing her job and allowing the state’s economy to suffer. At a rally in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon, Trump provided a list of grudges that he continues to hold against fellow Republicans.
There’s the party’s last nominee, Mitt Romney, who lost the 2012 election after declining Trump’s help in Florida but using the businessman to raise money. There’s former Florida governor Jeb Bush, who appears to be sitting this race out with his father and brother, both former presidents. There’s Bill Kristol of the conservative magazine the Weekly Standard, who Trump says has been wrong so many times that he should stop trying to make political forecasts. And there’s South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who devoted a televised rebuttal to countering Trump’s messaging and then endorsed one of his rivals before he won the state “in a landslide.”
Trump wants Republicans like these to do what Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) did: Pick up the phone and call him.
