Texas court dismisses indictment against former governor Rick Perry

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday dismissed an abuse of power indictment against Rick Perry, ending a case against the former Texas governor that dragged on his unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Perry, who campaigned for the Republican presidential nomination this year and in 2012, faced a first-degree felony charge that could have brought up to 99 years in prison because of a funding veto he made in 2013 that was seen as being intended to force a local prosecutor to resign.
