What I learned wearing Donald Trump gear on the streets of NYC

As I walked outside the venue, I felt disapproval from the eyes of other editors, stylists, buyers and streetstyle photographers who looked at me in disgust. I felt like fashion week’s biggest pariah.

“Dude, that’s not even funny,” an editor from InStyle said. “It’s not cute what you’re trying to do. That man could be president! Literally, you’re dumb for doing that.”

“It’s not ironic, it’s infuriating,” a designer told me outside of a show. “What you’re doing is the worst thing you could do for our people.”

“If you asked me three weeks ago, I would have laughed,” another designer told me inside her showroom. “But now, it’s not funny. It’s scary. I am scared.” Her reaction reflects Americans’ shock that Trump and his bigoted outlook have somehow made it this far. A man many considered a punch line is now a veritable frontrunner for the country’s presidency.
