Michael Bloomberg will have watched the results coming in from the crucial New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night with interest.

The strong wins for both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders may have convinced him that the American public is yearning for an independent candidate amid growing dissatisfaction with the Republican and Democratic establishment.

According to an exit poll of Republican voters before the results were announced, nearly half the Republicans who cast votes said they were “looking for somebody outside the establishment”.
