Ted Cruz 2013: "I think there probably could be a compromise" on legalizing 11 million illegals

CRAWFORD: What would you do with the eleven million people who are here illegally?

CRUZ: I think there probably could be a compromise on that…

CRAWFORD: A compromise?

CRUZ: …if a path to citizenship was taken off the table.

Cruz’s national spokesman, Rick Tyler, says Cruz was merely using the language of the bill’s supporters in order to sell his amendment. “That doesn’t mean that he would give them a path to legalization, he would not,” Tyler says, “and he never supported the underlying bill, but he was using that amendment to show that this whole thing was a farce, and it worked.” In the Republican debate earlier this week, Cruz, pressed on what he would do with the 11 million here illegally, said, “I have never supported legalization, and I do not intend to support legalization.”
