Of the roughly 100 candidates to run unsuccessfully for their party’s nomination since 1976, Gov. Walker’s 70-day campaign was the shortest. His was shorter even than Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s famously brief 2012 campaign, whose bid prematurely ended after a poor showing in the Iowa straw poll. (Gov. Rick Perry’s recent withdrawal from the race also puts him among the 10 shortest campaigns.)
