Huckabee: Ted Cruz can’t just ‘invite himself’ to speak at my Kim Davis rally

Both Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have made it clear they’re both firmly behind Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk was was jailed (though release yesterday) over her refusal to issue gay marriage licenses, despite multiple orders to do so. But instead of being something where both candidates have come together, their mutual support for Davis ended up causing some tension yesterday.

Huckabee held the huge rally yesterday to defend Davis, and Cruz showed up as well. He attempted to speak too, but a Huckabee staffer prevented him from doing so.

This morning Huckabee was pretty vague about what happened, but in an interview with Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg later today, Huckabee didn’t exactly deny that his staff kept Cruz from speaking, saying, “This was our event.”

He elaborated, “He’s not free to come to an event that we’re putting together and invite himself on the program.”
