Netanyahu to continue campaign against Iran nuclear deal

Commentators said that Netanyahu was still hoping for a declarative vote by the Republican majority in Congress against the deal, which would boost his argument that the majority of Americans and their elected representatives oppose the accord.

Israeli opposition to the deal has already brought U.S. promises of additional defense aid.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry sent a letter to members of Congress detailing security commitments Washington is planning to give Israel and the Gulf States as the Iran deal is carried out, including a new 10-year agreement with the Israelis on military assistance, increased funding for missile defense, and research and development cooperation for tunnel detection.

Critics of Mr. Netanyahu called Obama’s success in Congress a resounding defeat for the prime minister, whom they accused of souring relations with the White House while waging a vigorous lobbying drive for congressional rejection of the Iran deal.
