Auschwitz survivor confronts former Nazi at Germany trial, is embraced by him 

The German trial of the camp’s former bookkeeper has captivated international audiences since it began earlier this week. Kor, who has herded into the camp with her family in 1944, said she approached the elderly accountant on the first day of the trial, but he fainted as she shook his hand.

On Thursday, she went up to him again, and that’s when he hugged and kissed her.

“His response to me is exactly what I was talking about when I said you cannot predict what will happen when someone from the victims’ side and someone from the perpetrators’ side meet in a spirit of humanity,” she wrote in a question-and-answer blog.
