Care for a screwdriver?

A Chicago man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Vernon Hills apartment and using a kitchen knife to threaten another man.

Edgar Mena, 37, of the 2400 block of Lockwood Avenue, in Chicago, was charged March 15 with home invasion with a deadly weapon and criminal trespass to a residence.

Police say he still had a key to the woman’s apartment from their prior relationship, and he used that key to enter around 1:30 a.m. after he learned his ex had a male visitor.

An argument occurred, and Mena pulled a kitchen knife, police said. The woman’s male guest then grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed Mena in the back, according to police.

After he was stabbed, police said Mena fled the apartment in the 800 block of Westmoreland Drive, and witnesses saw him drive to the parking lot of another nearby building…

Neither Mena’s ex-girlfriend nor her male guest were charged with a crime, and neither needed medical attention, police said.
