House Republicans delay vote on border bill

On Monday night, an incoming snowstorm caused the House to cancel its votes and bumped the bill off the Rules Committee schedule. With the House already facing a truncated schedule, thanks to House Democrats’ retreat later this week, GOP leaders opted to defer a vote on the border bill, GOP aides said. Top House Republicans haven’t yet decided when the bill will be considered, aides said.

The weather aside, a contingent of conservatives wanted the House to wait on the border bill until the Senate votes on the immigration bill approved by the House earlier this month. They prefer that bill because it seeks to block implementation of Mr. Obama’s executive action.

“We should let the Senate act on our funding bill first before we start action on a border bill,” Rep. Raul Labrador (R., Idaho) said Monday.
