“You know, you never do say never,” she said on CNN’s “New Day.” “But we’re concerned and we are still going to be involved, but not in that way.”

“At this point in time, that’s where we are mentally,” she said.

Earlier in the week, Mrs. Romney had declared pretty definitively Mr. Romney would not be running again before backing off ever-so-slightly in a separate interview with the Washington Post.

“I think people are probably looking and saying, ‘this is one confident guy, who really is a great leader,’” she said Thursday. “He’s been in so many turnaround situations – he turns around companies; he’s turned around the Olympics, he was a great governor. He has extraordinary leadership abilities, and I think the times call for someone of that capability and I know he would have been a great president.”
