Gearing up: Hillary plans midterm blitz

The final stretch of the midterms will mark Clinton’s most extensive political activity since she left the State Department early last year and requests for her to appear began pouring in from all corners of the country.

A major goal has been to navigate the former secretary of State’s concerns about spending time with her daughter and newborn granddaughter Charlotte, other commitments she’s made like book signings and some political commitments put in place weeks ago, along with her desire to help candidates facing tough races this fall, people close to her said…

But she also wants to focus surgically on targets where she can be as helpful as possible, meaning races where committee data and polling has shown she is a maximum draw, her aides said. Abedin has worked closely with Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee executive director Guy Cecil, who worked on Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, over many months to determine where Clinton would be most effective.

She is also giving attention to certain races that are personally important to her. One the Kentucky Senate contest, where Democrat Allison Lundergan Grimes is trying to unseat Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Clintons are longtime friends with the candidate’s father, Jerry Lundergan, and it’s a signature race involving a woman running statewide.
