Not only do other “ethicists” like Princeton philosophy professor Peter Singer make a similar argument — that a life that involves deep suffering is not worth much, especially in cases of severe disability — there are also many well-meaning parents who view abortion this way.

But as parents of DS kids will point out, there is little about the lives of those individuals which suggests they are any more or less miserable than the rest of us.

The truth is that though many mothers may make this decision, Dawkins’ morality is not the morality most people aspire to. His is not the world most of us would like to live in.
