Ferguson protestors file suit against cops for $40 million

A number of Ferguson protestors have filed a $40 million lawsuit against the police, claiming that their rights were grossly violated when they were trying to peacefully protest the shooting of Michael Brown.

For weeks in Ferguson, police clashed with protestors, raising serious questions about the militarization of the police. The protestors name not just the Ferguson police department, but individual officers within it, the city of Ferguson, St. Louis County, and the county police.

The suit says the police used excessive force in dealing with protestors, and one of the plaintiffs claims that she and her teenage son were “roughed up and arrested” for not evacuating a McDonald’s fast enough (two reporters, you’ll recall, were arrested for the same issue).
