Islamist militant group Boko Haram has claimed what was believed from the start — that it was the group behind last month’s abduction of more than 200 girls from a school in Nigeria’s restive Borno state.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau made the claim in a nearly hourlong video first obtained Monday by Agence France-Presse.

According to accounts, armed members of Boko Haram overwhelmed security guards at the all-girls school in Chibok on April 14, pulled the girls out of bed and forced them into trucks. The convoy of trucks then disappeared into the dense forest bordering Cameroon.
