This isn’t exactly a big deal for Rubin, being that his engineering background is actually in robotics. However, for Google to step into the robot arena only confirms the conspiracy theories that surmise that Google is, in fact, Skynet. Regardless, robots are cool, and Google recognizes that. And why not? The company gave us self-driving cars, so why not a robot maid like Rosie from The Jetsons?
Granted, robot maids aren’t exactly what Rubin’s division is working on. To start, Google hopes to create robots for use in industrial settings, like factories. Believe it or not, many manufacturing plants are still mostly human-based and require human workers to walk across factory floors to deliver parts and goods. As Google is already experimenting with delivering packages in urban areas, building upon that existing technology is a no-brainer.
