While there are a lot of differences between Republican and Democratic presidents, there are also some pretty striking differences between Republican and Democratic ex-presidents. In modern times, at least, Republicans who left the White House have tended to avoid partisan politics (think Bushes) while the Dems have not (think Carter and Clinton). I bring this up because, for those of us who are looking forward to end of the Obama presidency, there is the sobering fact that he will be a relatively young 55 when he leaves office. Does anyone really think he will fade quietly and presidentially into the background?
