In hard-hit New York, John Conklin, a spokesman for New York’s State Board of Elections, said the state is in the process of evaluating polling places in affected areas to determine whether they can be used next Tuesday. …

Conklin added that the electric companies have been given lists of polling places so they can prioritize restoring power to them by next week. New York’s voting machines can run on battery power for limited amounts of time, but wouldn’t be able to run on batteries for all of Election Day. …

In Maryland, early voting hours were extended by Gov. Martin O’Malley, allowing voters to cast ballots this week as late as 9 p.m., said Linda Lamone, the state administrator of elections. All early voting locations in the state were operational by Wednesday morning.
