Poll: 82% of NYC voters say Chick-fil-A should have right to do business where it likes

A business owner’s controversial or unpopular opinions should not affect the ability to get government permits to do business, New York City voters say 74 – 15 percent, with strong support among every group and in every borough. Elected officials should not try to discourage people from patronizing such a business, voters say 81 – 10 percent, again with strong support from all groups.

Elected officials should not try to prevent advertising of unpopular opinions on buses, subways or other public spaces, voters say 67 – 23 percent.

In the specific case of Chick-fil-A, voters say:

82 – 12 percent say there should be no impact on the company’s ability to get permits;
83 – 11 percent say elected officials should not try to discourage people from patronizing the company.

“New Yorkers may disagree with what you say, but they defend your right to sell chicken,” Carroll said.
