Last year, 57% of American Jews approved of his performance; now he’s at 45%, bad news in a heavily Democratic group.

And there seem to be a mix of general and specific factors at play here. The obvious general one is the economy. Last year, 55% approved of Obama’s handling of the economy. Now an astonishing 60% disapprove, and only 37% approve — the most dramatic shift in the poll.

But Obama’s down sharply on Israel too. Last year, 55% of Jews approved of how he was handling the situation. Now, 53% disapprove, with the approval number down 15 points.
