There will be fewer widows and more widowers. Older females will certainly have a relatively easier time finding male partners, and older males will have a harder time finding female partners, but the overwhelming male advantage will remain. More intact older couples, married or not, will mean less need for long-term care.

The general increase in longevity and the older population is another matter that changes in the sex gap. This general increase will be very costly through our entitlement programs, and that is a big part of the long-term deficit crisis. Will younger adults who expect to live longer therefore plan to save more and to retire later? Eventually they probably will, but the main trend has been in the opposite direction over the past century.
