That’s to be expected in a nation where people believe, by a three-to-one margin, that no matter how bad something is, Congress can always make it worse.

Given such a monumental lack of trust, the politicians should call for help and let the voters decide. Both sides in Washington are resisting because neither side thinks the grown-ups will agree with them.

In fact, the root of the problem is that both political parties in Washington are treating voters with profound disrespect.
