Later the family took it to a nearby church for a second opinion. It’s not the first time it has happened. Escamilla’s 67-year-old mother found the face of Jesus in one of her own tortillas last fall. Her tortilla face also had a crown of thorns. The family has fallen on tough financial times lately and Escamilla sees it as a message to keep the faith.

“Sometimes God helps you out when you’re in a bad situation,” she said.

“I see it all different kinds of ways.”
