According to more recent studies, which corroborate Kinsey’s results, between five and 10 percent of American men reach climax seven times or more a week.
“Anything over six and my ears perk up,” says Martin Kakfa, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School. With seemingly scientific precision, Kafka defines a sex addict as someone who has experienced at least seven orgasms a week over a period of six months, and spends “one to two hours a day with such activities.”
Kafka added a few more criteria to his list. He now classifies as pathological those individuals whose sexual fantasies and behaviors
* are so time-consuming that they can hardly find enough time for other, non-sexual activities and obligations;
* occur as a reaction to anxiety, bad moods and boredom;
* repeatedly occur in response to unnerving events.
