So meeting McKeon is a huge concession by the mayor, who once took five days to apologize to the widow of Dr. Atkins for calling the late diet doc “fat” in a conversation he said he thought was off the record.

And it’s proof that the national stage may have to take a backseat to legacy and survival in the third term he fought hard, and controversially, to attain.
