Lame-duck session just keeps going and going and going…

After the START treaty, Reid said he would like to bring up a bill that would fund additional health care for first responders on Sept. 11. Supporters of the bill, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), were optimistic they would get a vote in this week. Gillbrand said that if START comes up for a cloture vote Tuesday, she can see the Senate taking up her legislation later in the day — as long as it hits the floor before Christmas…

The House has already voted on the Sept. 11 bill but will have to vote on it again because the Senate has changed the financial offsets in the bill. The House will also need to take up the Competes Act and food safety legislation. House leadership aides are not ruling out the possibility of a post-Christmas session to pass the Sept. 11 bill should the Senate muster 60 votes.
