The co-chairmen of President Barack Obama’s deficit commission postponed a final vote until Friday on a package of proposals that would reduce the deficit by $3.8 trillion in hopes of winning more support for it from other members of the commission.

Erskine Bowles, one of the co-chairmen, said he wasn’t concerned that the postponement violated instructions from Obama to the commission to complete its work by Wednesday.
