Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, a conservative rock star and idol of many potential freshmen, and Roskam, a leadership favorite who has shown political prowess, could very well become the liaisons to the freshmen.
But compromising will be a delicate task…
Boehner’s success as speaker, and the Republicans in the majority, will depend on whether he gets full buy-in from the anti-establishment freshman class.
“One common thing among several of the potential freshmen I spoke to is that we all got into politics in the mid-2000s because we didn’t like the way the Republican Party was headed, we didn’t like the spending under the Bush administration when we held Congress,” Mulvaney told POLITICO. “You’ll see a very short leash from a freshman class when it comes to business as usual.”
