Let’s stop telling candidates to “man up”

Kornblut doesn’t note it, but this insult has not been exclusively reserved for women. During his campaign for New Jersey governor, Chris Christie said Jon Corzine should “man up and say I’m fat.”

She might not have remembered that one, because, as Politico’s Jonathan Allen noted, “when a woman tells a man to “man up,” like Angle and Carnahan did Thursday, it tends to have a little added zing: There’s simply no way for the male candidate to respond – let alone to respond in kind.”
