Poll: Tea-party candidate now leads GOP primary in Nevada

Angle, who enjoys the support of tea party groups and the anti-tax Club for Growth, took 33 percent of the primary vote in the poll, compared with 26 percent for Tarkanian and 25 percent for Lowden. That number marks a precipitous drop in support for Lowden, a well financed candidate who was 17 points ahead of her nearest opponent as recently as late April.

The three candidates were virtually tied among female voters in Suffolk’s poll, but Angle held an 11-point lead among men and performed strongly in Nevada’s rural areas. Tarkanian had the highest personal approval rating, at 65 percent, and a 33-percent plurality continue to believe Lowden has the best chance of defeating Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the general election.

Lowden campaign manager Robert Uithoven called the Suffolk findings as “inconsistent as Sharron Angle’s spending priorities and FEC reports.”
