Republican candidates rakin' in the dough

In the Senate, Republicans hold a clear fundraising advantage in a handful of pivotal races: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Illinois.

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) was significantly outraised by his Republican challenger, Pat Toomey, and Republicans Mark Kirk, Rob Portman and Marco Rubio easily outraised their Democratic challengers — though Rubio has a competitive primary challenge from Gov. Charlie Crist.

In the House, while a handful of Democrats — including Tommy Sowers against Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) — outraised GOP incumbents, at least 10 Republican challengers outraised House Democrats, an unusually high number that portends the difficult environment the Democratic Party faces heading into the fall.
