When survey respondents are informed that AARP does support the health care plan, the number with a favorable opinion of the group falls 10 percentage points from 53% to 43%. Knowing of AARP’s position on health care legislation, 53% offer an unfavorable opinion of the group. The number with a Very Unfavorable view nearly doubles from 20% to 38%.

Those with a negative opinion include 52% of senior citizens and 59% of those aged 50-64.

Among voters who initially voice a favorable opinion of AARP, 30% change their mind upon learning of the group’s support for the congressional health care plan.
