In the spirit of the “beer summit,” in which a feud between the Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley of the Cambridge Police was smoothed out somewhat at the White House on Thursday, some notable New Yorkers were asked if they would be willing to do likewise, to try to resolve their differences with their rivals by sitting down for drinks.
Donald Trump, who has called Rosie O’Donnell a “loser” and a “horrible human being” on CNN, said he would not have a beer with Ms. O’Donnell, who called him a “snake-oil salesman” on “The View” television show.
“You should only sit down with people you respect,” Mr. Trump said. “And it wouldn’t be over a beer, because I don’t drink.”
Ms. O’Donnell declined to respond, a spokeswoman said.
