Next ObamaCare promotional hotness: Bourbon festivals?

ObamaCare and its supporters are panicking working hard to deceive persuade the younger, healthier demographic that they desperately need to sign up for health insurance that its in their best interest to do so, the better to prevent the more expensive, inherently riskier insurance pools that ObamaCare created from blowing up in their faces.

As Mary Katharine already noted earlier this week, individual states’ health care groups are looking at some — er, unique? — ways to advertise and promote the program, including in porta-potties (heh, fitting) at music festivals in Washington state and with airplanes flying promotional banners above Connecticut beaches. Sarah Kliff at WaPo has an update to her original story with the ways in which ObamaCare supporters the state of Kentucky is looking to reach its own youth base with the message that they should for some reason volunteer for these unnecessarily costly health care plans:

When I asked Kentucky spokeswoman for health reform Jill Midkiff where they might find young people, here’s what she e-mailed me back (unfortunately just a bit late to fit into my story):

“I briefly scanned a schedule of upcoming mobile tour events and below few that are attended by a large number of young people: regional sporting events, such as the Lexington Legends and Louisville Bats games; the Goettafest and Riverfest in Newport and Covington; the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown, Ky.; the Bourbon Chase; Oktoberfest in Newport; the Bourbon and Blues Festival in Owensboro; a couple of half marathons in various locations; the Iron Man competition, etc. We also expect that Navigators will be doing outreach on college campuses.”

Well, good luck with that, because the task of shepherding young people into the ObamaCare paradigm still has a long way to go. As George Will put it the other day, young people aren’t going to sign up when they finally get around to doing the elementary arithmetic. Starting around the 1:50 mark:

Now, the employers, not being dummies, have said, well, let’s have fewer employers and make many of the employees we have part-time employees. What Obamacare requires for it to work is mass irrationality, both on the part of employers to ignore that incentive and on the part of young people who are supposed to pay three, four, five times more for health insurance than it would cost them to just pay the fine and ignore it. … Young people are not going to sign up if they can do elementary arithmetic, which they can.
