Obama's green-energy jobs success -- er, failure rate

If you have any lingering romantical notions about the big nothingburger of old n’ busted recyclables that is President Obama’s last-ditch effort at a “second-term agenda,” here’s another exercise in futility we can glean from its glossy depths — or, rather, its glossy shallows.

If you flip through it, you’ll notice some lovely-looking assurances of the ways in which President Obama wants to wants to revive American manufacturing, about providing students with the best math-and-science educations possible, to keep using government spending as a tool for growth, about training workers for “good jobs that actually exist,” and about all the ways in which he intends to keep subsidizing and supporting the clean-energy industry.

Read: Get ready for more of our tax dollars to be frivolously thrown at the “green energy” and the “jobs of the future.”

The only problem being that pretty much all of President Obama’s previous efforts at this oh-so-noble endeavor to micro-manage the direction of our economy have gone fantastically poorly. Surprise, surprise, fresh from an audit requested by House Oversight and Government Reform on the recent activities of the $400 million the Obama administration earmarked for green-jobs training programs, via the WashTimes:

President Obama’s green jobs training program, which was part of his stimulus, has failed on most key jobs measures, according to a new internal audit that found it was training workers who already had jobs that didn’t need green energy skills, and was failing to place new enrollees in jobs once they finished the training.

The Labor Department’s inspector general also said grantees who received the green jobs-training money did a poor job of reporting their results.

Only 38 percent of those who have completed training got jobs based on it, and only 16 percent kept jobs for at least six months — the key measure of success for the program. …

Of those workers who already had energy-sector jobs, the auditors said they were retrained, even though they didn’t need it.

What should be just another nail in the “federal government trying to force their idea of green energy upon the masses”-coffin, is just a preview of a what we’ll get a second heaping helping of in a second Obama term.
