As if our friends at Power Line haven't become relevant enough. Next thing we know, Scott Johnson will be running CNN, and maybe John Hinderaker will take over the anchor desk at NBC News.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Protection Racket Media has finally caught up to years of reporting real news on massive fraud in Minnesota from Scott, John, and Bill Glahn, with the $250 million Feeding Our Future scandal merely a centerpiece. Now, border czar Tom Homan has decided to shine his spotlight on a story that Scott and John have covered for almost a decade – the curious case of Ilhan Omar's marriage history, her family identity, and more Minnesofraud. The national media has attempted to avoid any real journalism in a story that started sixteen years ago, and local media in the Twin Cities have succeeded in ignoring it.
Now, Homan promises, the Department of Homeland Security promises to get to the bottom of the immigration fraud that Omar allegedly committed to gain entry to the US for her brother. And while the statute of limitations has passed on criminal prosecution, Homan suggests that other consequences could result:
"There was immigration fraud involved...there's no doubt" (in reference to Ilhan Omar's marriage)

He also stated that the statute of limitations has passed.
This prevents Omar from criminal charges, but doesn't protect her from denaturalization or deportation.… pic.twitter.com/hbJWdScoi2
President Donald Trump and his allies have claimed Omar's first husband, Ahmed Elmi, is actually her brother, who she married for immigration purposes in 2009. The couple divorced in 2017 and no DNA evidence has supported the claim that they are brother and sister.
Homan told Newsmax that he was investigating whether Omar committed immigration fraud and is thereby in the country illegally. Omar first came to the United States with her family in the 1990s, according to her Congressional biography.
"We're pulling the records, we're pulling the files," Homan said Monday. "We're looking at it ... I'm running that down this week."
Homan also said the DHS is conducting an extensive review of visa fraud within Minnesota's Somali community, which comes after the department claimed 50% of visas in Minnesota are fraudulent.
First off, it's not just "Trump and his allies" who have alleged this scheme. These rumors have percolated for a very long time, and with substantial evidence of their accuracy. David Steinberg partnered with Power Line to connect all of the dots in 2018 and 2019, complete with data from official records and social media. He wrote a series of columns culminating in his final installment in 2019, with links to earlier work from Scott, John, and Preya Samsundar:
U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Abdullahi Omar (D-MN) is now under scrutiny for acts she took beginning in 2009 — not 1995. In 2009, Omar was a 26-year-old U.S. citizen. She had been a U.S. citizen for nearly nine years.
Additionally, the foreign national Omar apparently helped commit fraud was not fleeing hell in 2009, either. Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was a long-time citizen of the United Kingdom. He even possessed a high school diploma from the United States: Elmi attended a St. Paul, Minnesota high school for his senior year of 2002-2003, and graduated before returning to London. ...
In 1995, Ilhan entered the United States as a fraudulent member of the “Omar” family.
That is not her family. The Omar family is a second, unrelated family which was being granted asylum by the United States. The Omars allowed Ilhan, her genetic sister Sahra, and her genetic father Nur Said to use false names to apply for asylum as members of the Omar family.
Ilhan’s genetic family split up at this time. The above three received asylum in the United States, while Ilhan’s three other siblings — using their real names — managed to get asylum in the United Kingdom.
Ilhan Abdullahi Omar’s name, before applying for asylum, was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.
Be sure to read it all, and follow all of the links. Shipwreckedcrew gives a good thumbnail look at the case:
If I’m not mistaken - and I could be wrong- the most comprehensive look at this concluded that she married her brother so that HE could seek permanent resident alien status to remain in the US.

She was married to her ex-husband but not in a way officially recognized in the US.… https://t.co/F8RvcA9Xkf
Let's say that Homan and DHS find evidence that Omar's 'husband' at the time was indeed her brother. What then? That fraud initially took place in 2009, although it apparently extended to 2017, which is – coincidentally or not – Omar began her first campaign for the House in MN-05, although she had been serving a second term as a state legislator at that time. The federal statute of limitations would have expired three years ago at best, which means criminal prosecution against Omar or her alleged brother would be off the table.
However, as Tardio suggests, that limitation does not necessarily apply to regulatory consequences. The most direct potential consequence if fraud is proven would likely be to strip Ahmed Nur Said Elmi of his status to live in the US, and perhaps result in his deportation. It might be tougher to apply the same sanction against Omar, whose entry into the US did not depend on this fraud, and who had been granted asylum years earlier as a child. Her participation in an alleged sham marriage for immigration fraud would almost certainly result in a House Ethics Committee probe, though, and potential expulsion, although that would be a long shot. One might think that such fraud would preclude any future political career, but to believe that, you'd have to be entirely ignorant of the loons that comprise the electorate in MN-05.
Now that Homan has declared his interest in investigating Omar's marital/familial history, perhaps the Protection Racket Media will be forced to cover this Minnesota disgrace, too. Even if they do, though, keep an eye on Power Line for the real evidence and the real story. And maybe wait to see whether a major news outlet decides to give the trio there the Free Press treatment. If David Ellison acquires Warner Discovery, maybe Scott, John, and Bill will find places at CNN. Stay tuned.
