Ed: Has Chuck Schumer ever read the tale of Br'er Rabbit and the briar patch

===

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) via Chad Pergram: I think it has to be done by tomorrow, or things go south real quick. So I think really, tomorrow's vote is a crucial vote. Our Democrat colleagues have got to open this up again. If they don't, then, basically, I mean, all of their demands and so forth get much more difficult to meet in, you know, after the shutdown is complete, because all theirs are based on timing, and the timing is running really short to get anything done on some of the issues they claim to care about. So..this Schumer shutdown is not working for them. It's not working in their favor.

Ed: The more I think about it, the more I expect Dems to fold tomorrow afternoon when the clean CR comes up for another vote. Rounds is correct; the longer this lasts, the more permanent the changes Trump and Vought make will become. The Senate didn't hold a session today because of Yom Kippur, or there may have been movement today.

===

Ed:, Say, that Democrat media strategy seems to be failing. Now the message seems to be, "Yes, Democrats shut down the government, but only because Nazifasciststinkybottom Republicans made us do it!" Let's see how long that plays before Dems throw in the towel.

Just the News: Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Thursday told reporters that he does not expect the Senate to vote on reopening the federal government over the weekend if Friday's votes fail. ...

“They’ll have a fourth chance tomorrow to vote to open up the government, and if that fails, we’ll give them the weekend to think about it, and then we’ll come back and vote on Monday,” Thune told reporters, per Politico.

Ed: What's the point of holding weekend votes anyway? I'm not sure it will be necessary, though. Just because the Senate isn't working doesn't mean Trump and Vought are taking the weekend off. Senate Democrats now this, and with the narrative slipping away even in the Protection Racket Media, they may want to put a stop to Vought sooner rather than later.

===

Ed: Therefore, it's NOT a lie. Perhaps one day, we'll start getting "now it can be told" books from media figures admitting it.

===

Daily Wire: In the days before and since Democrats triggered the ongoing government shutdown, a number within their own ranks have also triggered a series of groans and cringes across legacy media outlets and social media platforms alike.

In the span of just a few days, they’ve delivered a series of over-the-top performances — and The Daily Wire has compiled several of their greatest hits for the sake of posterity.

Ed: This one's more of a click-through than a great quip to highlight here. I'd seen some of these embarrassing attempts to seize the narrative, but had missed a few worth capturing in amber. This one, for instance, is just so bad as to be hilarious....

===

Ed: Put aside the nonsense that Trump shut down the government, and this is still a cringe-fest. Trump doesn't have anything to do with keeping the lights on in the Capitol or in DC, which has its own budget and control of utilities. Furthermore, Trump hadn't closed down anything at that point. But as I told Duane earlier today, even if Trump HAD done these things, who enabled it? Senate Democrats, who have been claiming that Trump is a Nazifasciststinkybottom for the better part of a decade before handing him the keys to a government shutdown. Explain that, Rep. Jacobs.

Dokoupil: “– sorry, in the Democratic counter offer the proposal for funding, there is a restoration of Medicaid benefits for certain noncitizens that had been taken away in the Big, Beautiful Bill as Republicans put it.”

Warren: “No!”

Dokoupil: “Republicans don’t think those people should be getting health care on the taxpayer dime. I’m not asking on the merits. Politically, putting that in there, exposes you to this talking point, this lie as you put it. Why put it in there? Why is it worth it?”

Warren: “No. What’s happened is that what we’re saying is that whenever hospitals give care, what is going to be the level of reimbursement? And the Republicans said it’s going to be a low level. The Democrats said we just want go back to the level it was before because you’re going to bankrupt hospitals. You’re going to put rural hospitals out of business. The Republicans and the Democrats’ plan, nothing changes the number of undocumented immigrants who still get care if they show up bleeding and unconscious at an emergency room. There is absolutely zero difference. The difference is whether or not hospitals who, under laws that date back to Ronald Reagan, may provide emergency care to anyone who’s unconscious, will actually get reimbursed at a very low level that will put the hospital ultimately out of business potentially or at a higher level. The Republicans – there is no change, no change in the number of undocumented migrants who get any help under what the Democrats want. Look, what we’re looking for is help for people who are going to get pushed out of nursing homes, help for people who are at home and relying on home health aides.”

Ed: And Bari Weiss doesn't even start at CBS News until Monday. She's already getting results!

NY Post: Hamas’ top military leader in Gaza wants the terror group to reject President Trump’s cease-fire proposal, urging negotiators to walk away from the deal, according to a new report.

Ezz al-Din al-Hadad, who helped plan the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, slammed Trump’s 20-point peace deal as a way to eliminate Hamas without achieving any of its goals, the BBC reported.

The terror chief, who holds the fate of the 48 hostages in his hands, called on negotiators in Qatar to reject the deal, reportedly telling the team that he plans to continue the war with Israel.

Ed: So be it. Trump has a habit of delivering on red lines, especially when it comes to radical Islamists, Iran, and its proxies. Get ready for the end of Gaza City as it has existed until now.

Ed: Res ipsa loquitur.

Fox News: Walt Disney World logged its slowest three-week stretch of the year in September, putting it on track to be the quietest month since 2021.

Crowd tracker data for mid-August through mid-September shows average waits dropped to about 24 minutes per ride, even shorter than during the July 4 holiday, according to posted times from Disney's My Disney Experience app, aggregated by third-party tracker Thrill-Data and analyzed by Disney Tourist Blog.

On TikTok, some visitors described the parks as "ghost towns."

Ed: This isn't about Jimmy Kimmel. A couple of years ago, I noticed that Disney began spending a lot more money on advertising its theme parks after their feud with Ron DeSantis angered potential consumers. But it may not be entirely or mostly that either. A family trip to Disney of any significant length costs thousands of dollars, and the price has escalated far faster than the rate of inflation over the past 40-50 years. It went from being accessible to the working and middle classes to being a niche option for the upper-middle class and the wealthy.

Ed: This is what we voted for.

College FixLegal scholar Ilya Shapiro will not be allowed to give his speech about cancel culture and wokeness at elite law schools after New York University’s law school refused to facilitate a room and security for the event.

Shapiro planned to discuss his book “Lawless: The Miseducation of American Elites,” which discusses various cancel culture incidents at American law schools, including his own.

However, NYU law school canceled the event, scheduled for October 7, due to security concerns. Oct. 7 is the two-year anniversary of when Hamas terrorists attacked innocent Israeli citizens. Shapiro is Jewish and supports Israel.

Ed: Oh, the irony. This is clearly NYU Law's loss, as well as a reflection of what the law school teaches -- or rather indoctrinates -- its students. I'll have more on that tomorrow.

===

Ed: As I wrote yesterday, in fact.
