Why did Donald Trump call out the National Guard and the Marines to Los Angeles? Karen Bass declares herself "mystified" by the decision to protect federal buildings and federal law enforcement from Immigration and Customs Control after coming under attack by rioters -- and while local law enforcement did nothing about it. After all, Bass told ABC's Martha Raddatz yesterday, the riots were contained to "two square miles" in a city of over 500.
Sounds like Bass' response to the fires in the Palisades and Alta Dena, no? Hey, so we lost a few square miles and thousands of homes. That's just a drop in the (empty water) bucket!
Calling LA a city of "immigrants," Bass declared that enforcing immigration law amounts to a "reign of terror":
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Sunday called for an end to what she described as a “reign of terror” in the city, referring to the ongoing masked ICE raids and military presence in the city under the Trump administration.
In an interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz on “This Week,” the California Democrat said a series of high-profile raids and arrests — including of a labor union leader — and the deployment of thousands of National Guard troops has only spread fear throughout Los Angeles. ...
Bass called for people to be held accountable for violent behavior in some of the protests but said their actions “did not warrant military intervention.”
“It did not warrant the Marines coming into our city with basically no real mission but just a show of force. Los Angeles is 500 square miles. The disturbances took place in maybe two square miles,” Bass said.
Ahem. It's pretty easy for Bass to claim now that she wants violent rioters held accountable, but Bass has done literally nothing to make that happen. That was true before the deployment of the National Guard, and it's true after their deployment as well. In fact, Bass went out to the streets to encourage activists and rioters to obstruct ICE officers serving legitimate warrants and detaining illegal aliens with criminal records.
Nor is Bass alone in that regard. Governor Gavin Newsom vented outrage recently not at the people assaulting ICE officers in a Camarillo raid, including firing a pistol in their direction, but at the law enforcement officers who uncovered child-labor trafficking, captured several violent felons, and found nearly 400 illegal aliens working in marijuana fields. Why? Glass House Farms' president turned out to be a big-time donor to Democrats, including Newsom himself.
Was Bass concerned about the child labor, or the convicted rapists working among them? Does she have any concern over the violent criminals that ICE rounded up in Los Angeles? Or even the residents of the "two square miles" whose lives and safety got disrupted by the violent activists that Bass incited, morally if not in the strict actionably-illegal sense? Check out this exchange with Raddatz on the border and decide for yourselves. Raddatz certainly did (via Twitchy):
Karen Bass says Trump has done nothing good with the border:
— Western Lensman (@WesternLensman) July 20, 2025
“The viewpoint has been…let's make it as miserable as possible so that these people don't come."
Well…yes.
Then even Raddatz had to issue a correction: "Whatever they're doing is certainly working at the border." pic.twitter.com/7RgaS58DLY
Actually, Raddatz offered an even stronger rebuttal than this quote, although it oddly doesn't appear in ABC's transcript:
RADDATZ: Whatever they're doing is certainly working at the border itself. We were down at the border, and it is dramatically, dramatically different than it was a year ago.
What does that say about Bass' response to Raddatz' specific question about border enforcement? There are two possibilities. One is that Bass is an uninformed moron, and the other is that Bass wants the border undefended. Actually, make that three possibilities, with the third being both. The same woman who watched Los Angeles burn and then has done next to nothing to expedite rebuilding in the areas where her incompetence led to destruction wants to watch the border burn, too, and to allow criminal aliens to run rampant through the city in which she has the ultimate responsibility to protect against such malefactors.
Bass just wants to watch the world burn, both figuratively and literally. That's too much for Raddatz, and hopefully too much for Angelenos at some point.
Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
