While the party kicks into gear in Milwaukee, get ready for a lot more parties in the general election. And Donald Trump can thank the titan behind his greatest competition in the social-media industry for providing the funds.

According to the Wall Street Journal's exclusive tonight, Elon Musk will unleash $45 million in funding for a pro-Trump super-PAC. Not just once either, but per month through the election:

Elon Musk has said he plans to commit around $45 million a month to a new super political-action committee backing former President Donald Trump’s presidential run, according to people familiar with the matter.

Other backers of the group, called America PAC, include Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, the Winklevoss twins, former U.S. ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband, Joe Craft, who is chief executive of coal producer Alliance Resource Partners.

Don't expect them to fund keggers, however. Musk has been vocal on his own platform about the need for the GOP and the Trump campaign to come up to speed on all voting systems. AmericaPAC intends to focus its efforts on mail-in balloting as well as registering new voters and enhancing GOTV efforts in early voting.

Traditionally, Democrats have dominated those platforms, and Trump's last campaign insisted that they were illegitimate. Musk et al aren't taking any chances this time. Team Trump might remain diffident about mail-in, drop-box, and early voting, although there are signs that they are also taking it more seriously in 2024. AmericaPAC can close those gaps, however, and with $45 million a month from Musk alone, that pays for a lot of ground organization.

Consider too what that means for Democrats. If the GOP can close the gap on early GOTV, and if Republican voters remain more enthusiastic ahead of Election Day, the GOP could really pull off a landslide that could echo down the ballot. And with wealthy donors bailing on Joe Biden -- at least for now -- Democrats may not have the firepower to keep up.
