DeSantis, fresh starts, and ... the Sizzler: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

Townhall Media

When we bring the meat and potatoes, we really bring it! “I was asking you before we started recording,” Adam Baldwin says, “whether there’s a Sizzler in town.” I won our bet that Ron DeSantis would run in this cycle, which Adam recognizes by “once again don[ning] the Make America Florida hat.” But running is not the same as winning, and the road will be bumpy for both DeSantis and Donald Trump, especially with the media putting its thumb on the scales early and often.

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

Adam points out that, despite the glitches of his launch, the Twitter Spaces event showed how articulate DeSantis is, and more. “His bona fides in the military are unquestionable. He has a beautiful wife and children. He’s salt-of-the-Earth American Conservative from his roots,” Adam continues, “and I think that that’s a good thing. He has it ingrained in his in his heart and soul that constitutionalism and Americanism are the way to go.”

The key now for Republicans, I argue, is to allow all of the candidates to audition on a level playing field. “We really have to take a step back and let everybody make their case,” I say, “let everybody have their shot. And that includes Trump. It includes Tim Scott, who I thought had a great launch with that rally.” Even if I tend to think DeSantis is best positioned at the start of the primary, “I want to see how he engages in a national campaign, because I want to make sure that the guy that we run doesn’t brick when it comes to a general election,” I say.

That’s true of Trump as well, Adam argues. “Is Trump in a position where he’s not going to be persuading anyone because he’s such a known quantity? He’s probably the most famous person in the world,” Adam points out. “Who is going to change their mind on Trump? And what can Trump do to change their mind? Certainly not Truth out little red button analogies and sword fights. That’s not going to work.”

We discuss plenty more, especially about the media’s desire to manipulate GOP primary voters — an effort that has already started with the fake news about a Florida book ban. Be sure to watch it all, and join us in the comments!
