Is it really time, as a Newsweek column from a medical researcher declared, for “the scientific community to admit we were wrong about COVID”? Or is it time for The Science® to double down? Maybe both, as Adam Baldwin predicts in our latest episode. “These guys have the totalitarian impulse,” Adam says, “and they thought what better way to use it than for people’s safety and health? And so they jumped on the chance and anybody that disagreed with them was immediately demonized, vilified in the press.”

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
The damage goes well beyond credibility on COVID, Adam argues. “Unless there’s a major reformation with these scientific institutions — the CDC, the NIH, the WHO,” he says, “people are just not going to believe and not going to trust their advice anymore, which is terrible.”
But first they have to admit not just error, but a deliberate attempt to manipulate people and impose a political agenda through the use of emergency powers, I argue. And that’s not off to a good start, because the governing clique won’t even admit that the emergency has long been over. “This is a power trip. This is about power. Emergency decrees create lines of authority that don’t normally exist, and aren’t terribly accountable,” I say. “We haven’t been in an emergency in this pandemic for probably close to two years, if not two full years. It just simply hasn’t been there. The hospitalization rates aren’t at emergency levels, you know, the deaths, the actual causes of deaths or not at emergency levels.”
